About Me

- Name: Mark
- Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
I first started painting in 1986 while studying a 2year photography course at The Don College in Tasmania. I continued painting with a casual group from the Fine Arts students at the University of Tasmania while also studying Japanese language 1987-89. I ceased painting for a period of some 15 years while living abroad, studying Japanese in Tokyo for three years before returning to Sydney in Australia in 1994. I undertook a variety of professional occupations mostly involving Japanese and travel for the next 10 years before attempting painting again & re-found my passion. I took 3 years experimenting with acrylics and oil paints rekindling painting techniques. I now feel that I am ready to exhibit for the first time with the new set that I am currently working on and which will see me through until the end of 2008. I still work closely with photography, basing many paintings on photos taken in my local surrounds in the style of 'abstact photo-realism.' I am often inspired by images common to society from the past with a 'current' twist. Many of my works reflect inspiration from artists from the Masters to contemporary, translated with my own modern approach.
